WEEK 7: Facilitator

Hi everyone! I’m Lucía and this week I was the facilitator👩🏻. This role, in my opinion, has become more complicated now that we have to do everything online🖥️. It is harder for communication to flow the way it does face to face. But despite this additional difficulty, our work this week went pretty well.

This week’s task was to create a comic🖌️🎨💬 in which we had to portray the four main technological potentialities in education, based on a text by Cheryl Lemke. Out of the 7 types of comics we were presented, we picked the Cave Art style.

On Tuesday, even before the task was given to us, the first thing I did was arranging our meeting online as a group to discuss ideas about the project. We decided to do it on Wednesday at 10.15 on the morning. At first, I thought about doing it on Hangouts (as our teacher suggested), but after trying this tool and not being fully convinced by it, I decided to do it on Zoom (which I also had to test, since I hadn’t used it before). It was important to try the application before our meeting so that there wouldn’t be too much technological trouble.

Before our meeting on Wednesday, I told my teammates that it was key for them to read the text 📖by Lemke (“Innovation through technology”) so that they were prepared for our brainstorm the following day.

Our meeting began by discussing the points that we wanted to choose as technological potentialities (there was a bit of controversy about which points to choose). Having made clear this first step, we moved on to have a brainstorm 💭about ideas to portray the potentialities into scenes in cave art style (Lorena had already written down some good ideas that came to her on Tuesday). We decided to do 6 scenes (an introduction, a scene for each potentiality and a conclusion). After discussing some aspects of how we were going to put all the elements together and what application to use, I distributed tasks✍🏼:

- Lorena: scriptwriter. She had the job to write properly, in a script form, all the scenes we had already talked about (the ideas were already there, from the brainstorm).
- Lucía (me): I had to adapt Lorena’s script into narrative and dialogue globes, as well as designing the distribution of the elements.
- Fátima and Patricia: they had to prepare their presentation for Thursday
- Álvaro: illustrator. He had to draw the cartoons and objects and then scan them.
- Marina and David: they had to take Álvaro’s scanned drawings and cut the pictures so that they could be implemented into the online version of our comic.
- Verónica: she was in charge of putting the “collage” together, taking the already cut pictures and the dialogue globes and dsitribution of elements (basically, the previous design), using the application “Fotojet”.

Everyone in our team worked really hard this week, although some were more relaxed than others. But at the end, we were extremely happy with the result. On Thurday (our presentation day), after difficulties with the videoconference, our stars ⭐(Fátima and Patricia) presented the work at last (but not least😉), and did an amazing job.

We hope you liked our comic and we will see you around! (Although just on a screen😂)
